Whether you are a city resident, a prospective visitor, or just curious, we hope you will find something of interest here.

The Park and Tree Department has a unique place within the history of Savannah's city government. The roots of the department extend back to 1896, with the establishment of the Park and Tree Commission. Prior to that, our heritage extends back to the establishment of the Colony of Georgia, and the City of Savannah by James Oglethorpe in 1733.

The public squares laid out in the original city plan are now under the stewardship of the Park and Tree Department. We take great pride in our role in preserving, maintaining and improving these squares.
