SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Georgia coach Mark Richt seemed to say it all when he opened his post game press conference Saturday by saying, "Well, here we are again.''
But where exactly is "here" right now for Georgia?
Those who see the glass half empty would say Florida 41, UGA 17 was just another humbling loss to a rival that happens to be ranked no. 1 this season. Those who see it completely empty would call it Georgia's latest step away from respectability.
"Well, I don't know,'' said Richt. "We're 4-4 this season. I don't think it's an indictment of our program. I think it's an indictment of how we've done this year.''
But there are plenty of voices, in the media and on the message boards, that say otherwise, claiming the won-lost record is merely a symptom of the lack of talent and leadership that has diminished the Bulldog product.
"Yeah, a lot of the goals we set, we figured we wouldn't be in this position,'' said UGA defensive end Demarcus Dobbs. "I mean, it's very frustrating. We thought we had a good game plan going into the game, thought we had a good feel for them. But we just came out and didn't make the plays we needed to make and they did. We just got outplayed.''
If that's all Saturday was, it might be excusable.
But getting outplayed and outcoached has been a trend this season for a Georgia team that will have to fight to qualify for a bowl game.
And it has gotten so bad that all the dogs can really say is that they'll get better.
"One thing about our team is we fight,'' said UGA receiver Michael Moore. "We bounce back.''
"I think it's not hard because we've got great leaders and great leaders are going to keep pushing each other,'' added UGA safety Reshad Jones. "And we as one team keep pushing each other.''
"We've got a bunch of fine men in that locker room who are going to regroup and we are going to fight our way to get back on the winning track,'' said Richt. "And I personally am dedicating myself to making sure we do that.''
And that would be more than the Dogs have done all season
